I’m a Partner and currently the firm’s Managing Partner. My areas of specialisation are scientific instruments, physics, electronics and photonics.

My background is in physics – I completed a doctorate in high temperature superconductivity at the University of Oxford. I started training as a Patent Attorney at another large London-based firm before joining Boult.

A large amount of my work since joining Boult has been in scientific instruments. I’ve been fortunate to act for a large multinational company with a particular specialisation in mass spectrometers. It’s an area of science that I really enjoy, and I have developed a significant amount of expertise in this field. I have also acted for several decades for a large Japanese company that develops photonic equipment such as light and UV detectors, medical scanning detectors and so forth. Both firms have been great to work with, and the close working partnership we have developed has given me a great deal of job satisfaction.

China has become an important market for the firm over the last decade or so. Together with Dr Catherine Wolfe, a Partner, I have visited Beijing on many occasions. These visits have helped us better understand the specific needs of the Chinese domestic market when seeking to secure IP rights in Europe.

I was closely involved in the opening of our Frankfurt office, and I am very excited for the prospects of our European business as we expand organically within Germany and Spain.

Before I took on my present role within the firm’s management team, I headed Boult’s Practice Committee, with responsibility for developing internal and external procedures to reflect changes in domestic and overseas law and practice.

I’ve always enjoyed mentoring trainees, many of whom are now partners in the firm.

What makes us different? For me, it is the people and the working environment. We want to create a friendly, transparent and welcoming atmosphere throughout the firm. A supportive and collaborative workplace is, we believe, reflected in the relationships we have with our clients, many of which have developed over years or even decades.
