I am a Partner at Boult and am qualified as both a Patent Attorney and a Trade Mark Attorney.
My technical background is in engineering, specifically mechanical engineering and control systems. I have represented clients in the aerospace and automotive sectors as well as clients specialising in footwear, anti-corrosion products, pipeline inspection, toys and games and audio products.
I have represented patent clients at the European Patent Office in appeals from the examining division and in oppositions both at first instance and on appeal, appearing in person at the EPO’s offices in Munich, The Hague and Berlin. I have also represented clients at hearings at the UKIPO and on appeal from the UKIPO to the Patents Court. In addition, I have been involved as a part a team representing clients in UK patent infringement proceedings.
My trade mark practice includes clients across a wide variety of fields including financial services, telecoms and computer games. I have represented clients at opposition hearings before the UKIPO and on appeal to the Appointed Person. I have been involved in trade mark litigation both in the UK and internationally. I have instructed barristers in appeals from the EUIPO to the General Court in Luxembourg.
I have been involved in UDRP proceedings in domain name disputes, usually via the WIPO in Geneva, as well as being involved in several successful mediations settling long-running disputes, including a mediation of an international dispute at the WIPO.
Having experience in patents, trade marks and designs, I enjoy working with UK SMEs to devise for them a plan to protect and exploit their innovations covering all forms of IP.
Away from my work, I undertake pro bono work for a number of trade marks clients, such as Action Against Hunger/Action Contre La Faim. I also work on a pro bono basis for ACID (Anti Copying in Design), a trade association for designers and manufacturers, which campaigns on IP-related topics.
I have some proficiency in French.
