My academic background is in the arts, with degrees in history and publishing. A role in trade marks piqued my interest, and I felt my skills from academia and previous experience – attention to detail, focus on deadlines and budgets and a love for clear and succinct writing – were highly transferrable.
I am now a Partner and advise on a wide range of UK, European Union and international trade mark cases for a diverse client base. I have particular experience of working across the food and beverage, manufacturing, retail and security sectors, with strong skills in trade mark filing, prosecution and maintenance, as well as portfolio management, reviews and audits. I have also assisted in a range of contentious proceedings before the UKIPO and the EUIPO. Negotiating amicable settlement of trade mark disputes and preparing co-existence agreements is a highly rewarding challenge.
It is that variety in work that I enjoy most about my role, both in terms of client type and subject matter. I have also always relished working internationally with colleagues in Europe and beyond, often on global portfolio management. The process of aligning a brand’s strategy across the world is a really important one, which I find to be fascinating.
