  • Chartered Patent Attorney
  • Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary University of London
  • DPhil Inorganic Chemistry, University of Oxford
  • MChem Chemistry, University of Oxford

I became aware of patents as an exclusionary legal right early on, and quite probably from Dragons’ Den! That interest in patents grew throughout my degree and the commercial importance of patents was made clear to me in my experience with working in research for chemical companies.

Prior to my DPhil, I worked with Johnson Matthey on a summer placement. This gave me my first insight into the practical considerations of patents, and provided a focus on the commercial aspects of IP and its value to the company. This was reinforced after my DPhil, when working with a pharmaceutical services provider (Aptuit).

I joined Boult in 2018 and have since qualified as a Patent Attorney. I particularly enjoy working with inventors to draft new patent applications. To do so requires quickly developing your knowledge of the specific field of the invention and learning about new technologies, to understand the problems that the invention overcomes and how. It’s a multifaceted undertaking but one I take great pride in accomplishing.

Recent experience

Drafting numerous specifications for more than 10 patent families a year for a rapidly growing client and advising on filing strategies in view of ongoing developments.

Advising a client on the state of Oppositions and Appeals in respect of patents which relate to a product that the client works with in various jurisdictions having been obtained by a third party.

Actively involved with giving talks and patent training for clients as well as for students at Boult’s vacation scheme.
