Qualifications
  • Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary University of London
  • BA Preclinical Medicine, Intercalating in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, University of Cambridge

I studied medicine at university, specialising in physiology, development and neuroscience. My research involved investigating the role of the immune system in neurodegenerative disease, and this provided me with practical experience in a variety of biochemical techniques. Upon completing my BA, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career outside of a hospital setting, and a career in patent law seemed like the perfect way to combine my background in science with my interest in the commercial world. I joined Boult as a Patent Trainee.

Now as a Patent Assistant, I get the opportunity to advise on many patents and patent applications across the spectrum of biotechnology. It is exciting to encounter so many cutting-edge technologies and to learn about them in depth – this means that every day there is something new to get involved in!

I have particularly enjoyed collaborating with inventors to get to grips with an invention and helping to advise them on how best to seek protection.

Recent experience

Assisting a client in a review of the patent landscape for a range of biomarkers in order to aid with its research strategy and patent portfolio management in the future.

Acting for a client in the drafting of a patent application for a novel small molecule, including discussions with the inventors regarding their experimental findings and advising on how to protect their invention and its potential commercial applications.

Acting for clients in the filing and prosecution of international patents, involving filing and prosecuting applications across a range of jurisdictions, including Europe, Asia and the Americas.
