I have first-hand knowledge of patents and IP from the inventor-side, having patented my work during my PhD, and spun-out a company based on the IP. As Chief Scientist, one of my roles was to manage our IP, including the patent portfolio. This really caught my interest, and I chose to change career to practice patent law.
I advise a wide range of clients from start-ups to multinational aeronautical organisations in all areas of patent-related IP, from drafting and prosecuting patents to strategic portfolio management. I have a first-hand understanding of the critical importance of IP, especially to smaller companies, from my previous experience. Taking a central role in securing the best protection for our clients’ innovations is something I find highly rewarding.
My scientific and research background lies in the fabrication and characterisation of semiconducting materials and devices, with specific emphasis on high-speed electronics, optoelectronics and photovoltaics, as well as characterisation techniques. I love learning about the huge variety of exciting new technologies our clients are working on, both those in my background and beyond.
