I joined Boult over 15 years ago, originally as a Records Manager and now work as our Director of IP Operations. IP was an industry I fell into but is one that has provided me with the dynamic and engaging, people-focused career I was seeking. I’ve always been a people person and interacting with colleagues and clients during my time with Boult has been a real pleasure.

My department provides complete IP workflow support to our teams and clients, in the UK, Europe and overseas. We make sure the patent and trade mark process flows seamlessly and manage the behind-the-scenes machinery so our fee earners can concentrate on making our clients ambitions a reality.

To do this, we employ a sophisticated case management system called Inprotech. Through Inprotech, we can monitor trade mark and patent applications from filing to grant, through opposition and pre- and post-registration of renewals. The solution we provide to our clients is flexible, and we’ve modified the system greatly to provide a wealth of data to clients. We’re equipped to provide tracking of applications and automatic renewals payments, if that is something the client desires. I attend and host industry forums for Inprotech to share insight and innovations with fellow firms whenever I can.

Developing people and systems has been my favourite aspect of my role with Boult. Upskilling my team, now of around 30, to continue to provide a service befitting of our reputation is a highly rewarding challenge, and one I take great satisfaction in. We also ensure our systems continue to operate efficiently and effectively for internal and external users. We strive to be the best in the market – something which is regularly commented upon by our clients, and which we can’t achieve by sitting still. In recent times, BoultRenew is a great example of a product we’ve developed to automate the renewal process, which has generated a great response from our clients. Likewise, BoultView, a secure online portal enabling clients to access their portfolio in real time whenever needed, has been launched to great success.

I recently took up the IP Operations Director role within the firm alongside other senior leaders of our business services departments. This has proved a great opportunity to reinforce the integrated culture we have here at Boult. A number of my team have been with the firm for over a decade or more. I’m incredibly proud of that record of retention, which really shows Boult is a great place to be.
