During my Master’s year, I ran a science outreach project based on quadrupole ion traps. The project aimed to improve children’s engagement with science at school and raise awareness of careers in science at a younger age. I found the public engagement side of the project the most rewarding and, having always enjoyed science, patent law seemed like the ideal way to combine the technical knowledge I learned at university with the client facing and legal aspects of protecting inventions.
I joined Boult shortly after graduating and I qualified with the firm. The range of work that we handle on a day-to-day basis is both interesting and engaging. I find that working closely with our clients is a rewarding experience, particularly where we have encountered and overcome challenging objections from the patent office(s). No two patent applications are ever the same. There is always a new topic to learn about, from airplane wings to the latest medical devices and all things in between.
