I am a Partner experienced in managing global patent portfolios as well as advising clients in relation to IP due diligence projects, for instance on their freedom to operate (FTO) in the market, the strength of their own portfolio and on the steps to take to improve their position.
My research background is in vaccinology, particularly viral vectors, and I have been fortunate that I have been able to continue working in this field as a Patent Attorney. I also find it refreshing that I am not confined to the technologies in which I have laboratory experience. As a Patent Attorney, I have been working a lot in the field of immuno-oncology. Understanding new techniques, both in this field and others, plus how they relate to the foundational and platform technologies, enables me to see where work can be done and therefore to advise the client on how to strengthen their position.
I like solving problems for clients: thinking creatively around their challenge and how to resolve it to their advantage is probably the aspect I enjoy the most. Being able to create a successful solution for a client is very fulfilling.
I thoroughly appreciated the support and training I received in helping me develop the skills that I was hired for when I joined Boult. As well as now being an external examiner for final diploma exams, I am actively involved in day-to-day training internally. Discussing a task with trainees, helping them understand the principles involved and what might need to be adjusted, then working together to produce that final product with the right advice for the client is highly rewarding.
This collaborative aspect applies throughout the firm, with colleagues in different practice groups always willing to advise. We have a positive ethos here at Boult.
