I’m a Patent Assistant here at Boult. I’ve worked with a variety of large multinational companies handling the prosecution of patent applications in Europe, as well as other jurisdictions, including the US. I also have some experience assisting on contentious matters, including opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office.
Prior to joining the profession, I completed a PhD in molecular physics and quantum optics at Imperial College London. My research focused on producing beams of polar molecules under high vacuum at temperatures close to absolute zero and then slowing and guiding the beams with laser light and magnetic fields with a view to trapping the molecules. The trapped molecules can be used to develop quantum simulation and sensing technologies, as well as having applications in fundamental physics research. I’ve also previously worked as a data scientist and machine learning consultant.
The patent profession appealed to me as we are constantly dealing with new technologies right at the point where they have real-world applications and, moving from academia, I wanted to continue working with science and technology, but in a more commercial environment.
