My specialism lies in European patent Oppositions and Appeals in chemistry, materials science and engineering.
I frequently advise on revocation matters and the challenge of oral proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO).
I find advocacy a rewarding experience and undertake 20 to 30 hearings each year before the Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal of the EPO. I am also experienced in revocation and entitlement proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office.
As a materials scientist with a background in both chemistry and physics, I am able to work with clients from a wide range of industries, including polymers, catalysts, food and beverages, metallurgy and coatings. I enjoy working as part of a team to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of technologies where our clients are active.
I am a regular speaker at conferences, and have been appointed chair of conference sessions, such as the EPO Oppositions and Appeals masterclass at the CIPA congress. I also contribute annually to the Patent Litigation Law Review, where I co-author a chapter on Oppositions and Appeals at the EPO.
